BondConnect

Proof of Energy (PoE) is an open-source blockchain protocol developed to enable the certification and tokenization of renewable energy in order to ensure that blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) are powered exclusively by green energy sources. The project responds to the growing need for sustainable blockchain infrastructure, offering a verifiable way to track energy origin and eliminate the carbon footprint of digital networks.
By connecting real-world renewable energy systems—such as photovoltaic installations—with blockchain smart contracts and energy oracles, PoE allows energy producers to create digital tokens representing green energy units. These tokens can then be used by blockchain applications to prove and offset their energy consumption.
The platform will also incorporate automated on-chain payments using stablecoins, promoting transparency and traceability in energy-related financial flows. PoE is fully compliant with European standards, including MiCA and GDPR, and follows a modular and interoperable architecture designed for compatibility with EVM networks like Alastria and Polygon.
The project will be validated through a pilot in a real-world solar energy setting, involving users, including both producers and consumers. The goal is to deliver a scalable, user-friendly, and replicable solution that enables any blockchain network or application to prove its use of green energy.
Proof of Energy contributes to the digital and ecological transition by promoting a clean, transparent, and inclusive approach to energy use in Web3 ecosystems. It supports European sustainability goals and positions the region as a pioneer in climate-responsible blockchain innovation.

- Motivation for the project: As blockchain adoption grows, its energy consumption raises environmental concerns. TrustChain needs tools to ensure green, transparent infrastructure. Proof of Energy enables verifiable, standardized green energy use—crucial for sustainable and trustworthy DLT ecosystems.
- Generic use case description: A DLT-based energy marketplace integrates PoE to certify that each transaction is backed by verified renewable energy. Tokens are issued by energy producers and consumed by blockchain applications seeking to prove zero-emission operation.
- Essential functionalities: Tokenization of renewable energy; certification via blockchain oracles; automated payments using smart contracts; energy traceability dashboard; modular and interoperable design for EVM networks; compliance with EU energy and data regulations.
- How these functionalities can be integrated within the software ecosystem: The protocol is designed for easy integration through open APIs, smart contracts, and token standards fully compatible with EVM networks. It connects with existing TrustChain infrastructure to provide verifiable green energy data and automate clean energy certification and payments.
- Gap being addressed: Most blockchain applications lack tools to certify their energy origin. There’s no common framework to prove renewable energy usage, ensure traceability, or automate compliance. PoE fills this gap by standardizing and verifying green energy usage across decentralized systems.
- Expected benefits achieved with the novel technology building blocks: Enables verifiable green energy use in blockchain networks, reduces carbon footprint, standardizes energy tokenization, and promotes transparency, automation, and trust in renewable energy certification and payments.
- Potential demonstration scenario: Pilot in a real photovoltaic plant where energy is measured, tokenized, and linked to smart contracts for traceability and payment. Users —both energy producers and consumers—will interact with the platform to validate its functionality.
