In today’s interview, we are excited to speak with the team behind EIDCMP, a consortium that brings together expertise from WalliD, APBC, and Bloq4U. Together, they are working on the WalliD CertiShop platform, which focuses on secure, digital certificate solutions. With each organization bringing its own unique strengths—WalliD’s leadership in digital identity, Bloq4U’s blockchain consulting, and APBC’s role within Portugal’s blockchain community—their collaboration offers a promising look at the future of digital trust and identity. We’ll explore how this team came together, their vision for simplifying digital identity, and the impact of their work through TrustChain.
Can you briefly present your team?
EIDCMP is a consortium led by WalliD and joined by APBC and Bloq4U, responsible for the development and commercialization of the WalliD CertiShop platform. WalliD, based in Portugal, is a leading digital ID provider since 2019, pioneering eIDAS 2 compliant solutions that enhance security, trust, and fraud prevention. Bloq4U specializes in blockchain consulting in Portugal, and APBC, the Portuguese Blockchain Association, represents over 100 companies in the blockchain space.
How did you come up with this project idea and what benefits will it bring to the end users?
WalliD’s mission is to simplify the use of compliant and secure Digital ID solutions. Most current implementations are impractical for businesses and individuals, so we aim to create an accessible interface layer between organizations, individuals, and European digital ID protocols. APBC, as part of the Portuguese web3 ecosystem, identified the need for eIDAS 2 compliant solutions to issue membership credentials. Bloq4U, working with professional organizations, encountered fraud issues related to certificates such as origin certificates, diplomas, and membership cards. CertiShop directly addresses these challenges, providing a secure, easy-to-use platform for creating and verifying digital certificates.
How is TrustChain supporting your growth and what role does it play for the next steps in your development?
TrustChain has been essential in helping us integrate with the existing infrastructure for secure and reliable eIDAS 2 compliant implementations. Their support has been crucial not only in sharing valuable knowledge but also in connecting us with key stakeholders and other builders in the ecosystem, enabling us to accelerate development and build trust within the digital identity space.
Why did you apply to the TrustChain call and has your vision changed since then?
We applied to TrustChain to help us realize our vision of building an easy-to-use interface for digital certificate issuers, utilizing novel technologies that are compliant with eIDAS 2 and GDPR. TrustChain’s support has been instrumental in aligning us with the right infrastructure and stakeholders. Our vision remains unchanged as we continue to focus on simplifying digital identity for organizations and individuals.
What is the most valuable takeout from the TrustChain project and why was the topic of the Open Call important to you/your team?
The most valuable takeaway from the TrustChain project has been the connection with the ecosystem, particularly with decentralized identity (DID) providers. The Open Call’s focus on privacy was crucial to our team, as it aligns with our goal of building a frontend layer that simplifies access to eIDAS-compliant tools while maintaining privacy-enhancing solutions.
Did you establish collaboration with any of the TrustChain teams or plan for any kind of synergies? If yes, what is the biggest potential in such collaborations?
Yes, we established collaboration with Wallt.ID, which was the first protocol provider we integrated into our developed frontend. Moving forward, we plan to integrate with other compliant standard and protocol providers within the ecosystem, enhancing synergies and expanding the scope of our digital certificate solutions. The biggest potential in these collaborations lies in creating a seamless, interoperable network of eIDAS-compliant tools that simplifies access for users and organizations alike.
What are your expectations regarding the TrustChain software ecosystem and its contribution to the NGI priority areas?
We expect the TrustChain ecosystem to drive the development and adoption of real SSI solutions by expanding protocols, standards, and their practical use cases. Our mission is to make trusted and private digital ID solutions accessible to everyone, and we rely on infrastructure providers to build the strong foundations necessary for this vision. By doing so, TrustChain can significantly contribute to the NGI priority areas of privacy, trust, and digital sovereignty.
What are the next steps for your team?
WalliD will focus on productizing and delivering this solution as a SaaS, through a no-code platform that allows organizations to design, issue, and manage verifiable credentials compliant with European standards. We are concluding this Open Call with pilot tests involving multiple professional and industry organizations in Portugal, which will kickstart product development. Following the pilots, our focus will shift to marketing and expanding product features to enable organizations to become official and compliant issuers of various types of data.
What is the message you would give to new and potential applicants to TrustChain Open Calls?
Our message to new and potential applicants is to embrace the opportunity. The TrustChain Open Calls offer a unique chance to not only access cutting-edge SSI and DID infrastructure but also to connect with a vibrant ecosystem of experts and innovators. This is more than just funding—it’s about collaboration, growth, and building solutions that address real-world problems in privacy, security, and trust.
I would encourage you to leverage the community and resources provided by TrustChain, as they were instrumental in accelerating our development. Be clear about your goals, stay open to feedback, and use this as a platform to scale your solution to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Lastly, don’t hesitate to experiment and push boundaries—this is a space that welcomes innovation, and the TrustChain ecosystem is here to support you.
