In this interview, we meet the team behind FitChain, a collaborative effort between Greek tech SME NEURON AI and Romanian innovation lab Logika-X. United by a shared mission to give users full control over their fitness and health data, the team combines expertise in semantic web, AI, and blockchain to build a secure, decentralized platform that redefines how personal health data is managed and monetized. With support from TrustChain, FitChain is transforming the fitness data economy—prioritizing privacy, transparency, and user empowerment in a rapidly growing digital health landscape.

Can you briefly present your team?

NEURON AI is a tech SME focused on innovation in data analytics and semantic web technologies. We’ve built expertise in reasoning tools and ontologies through projects like CIRAM and RESILOC. For FitChain, we bring a strong network of partnerships, including one of Greece’s largest running portals, Run247, which will act as a beta platform. Our goal is to make data-driven fitness and health solutions accessible, while empowering users to control their data.

Logika-X, based in Bucharest, is at the cutting edge of combining Blockchain (DLT) and Generative AI. Our mission is to create secure, scalable solutions that protect privacy and enhance digital trust. In FitChain, we bring our blockchain expertise to ensure data sovereignty, integrity, and fair economic models for users.

Together, NEURON AI’s strong presence in fitness data ecosystems and Logika-X’s blockchain and AI expertise form a powerful synergy. FitChain benefits from this collaboration by ensuring user empowerment, transparency, and practical adoption through real-world platforms like Run247—directly contributing to TrustChain’s mission.

How did you come up with this project idea and what benefits will it bring to the end users?

FitChain was started as an idea through the NEURON AI team’s observation of a growing demand for data sovereignty, where individuals, having recognized their personal data (especially those related to their health and sports activities) as valuable assets, seek to gain control and exploit it, receiving, if they wish, the relevant exchange. The platform leverages blockchain technology to create a transparent, secure environment for users. Through the implementation of a smart contract process, FitChain automates consensus management and data sharing agreements, allowing users to maintain ownership of their data, while at the same time carrying out secure transactions that preserve their privacy. FitChain is ultimately a decentralized platform designed to revolutionize the fitness and health data economy by enabling the secure, equitable, and peer-to-peer exchange of personal fitness data. At its core, it leverages blockchain technology to create a transparent, immutable, and user-controlled environment where individuals can monetize their health and fitness data while maintaining complete privacy and control over their information.

How is TrustChain supporting your growth and what role does it play for the next steps in your development?

TrustChain provided the boost we needed to test and evolve FitChain. Aligning with its core principles and objectives of data sovereignty, transparency, and fair digital economies, we immediately gained credibility and technical support for our solution. TrustChain helped us connect with technology mentors and during the pilots to validate our model within a trusted ecosystem accelerating its adoption through initiatives like Run247. In this way, and through the related funding, we ensured that our development is not only technological but also user-centric, positioning FitChain as a benchmark for secure, decentralized health data management.

Why did you apply to the TrustChain call and has your vision changed since then?

Our proposal was submitted exclusively to TrustChain because we believe that its mission is fully aligned with the vision we had for FitChain, to give people full control over their health data, while creating transparent digital processes based on disruptive technologies. From the moment of submission until today, our vision has been strengthened as we have increasingly seen the need for relevant applications. With the help of TrustChain, we gained access to a supportive ecosystem, with tools and consultation to improve our approach, shaping our solution to be more effective and socially useful.

What is the most valuable takeout from the TrustChain project and why was the topic of the Open Call important to you/your team?

The greatest value we gained from TrustChain is the validation of a truly user-centric approach, whereby decisions were no longer based solely on intuition, the solution would be accessible to everyone, even those with a technological knowledge gap, shaping our competitive advantage around the user. The open call had a significant impact on our solution, as it supported both financially and advisory to run our pilot tests and identify how technology can empower individuals rather than solely exploit their data. With the help of TrustChain, we were able to design FitChain with users at the center, ensuring that they own their health data, and they decide how it is shared, benefiting fairly from its value. This alignment between technology, trust, and user empowerment confirmed that FitChain is not just a technological solution, but also a socially impactful product.

Did you establish collaboration with any of the TrustChain teams or plan for any kind of synergies? If yes, what is the biggest potential in such collaborations?

No, we have not yet formally collaborated with other TrustChain teams. However, we are closely monitoring the developments meetings and outcomes of the next open calls for potential future collaborations, particularly in areas such as interoperability and the development of common solutions that enhance trust and transparency.

What are your expectations regarding the TrustChain software ecosystem and its contribution to the NGI priority areas?

In the near future, our expectations for TrustChain are to continue to promote collaboration between innovative solutions, to strengthen the funding of pilot actions, continue to ensure interoperability between platforms and setting new benchmarks for ethical and sustainable digital services in Europe and beyond by supporting the development of new business and sustainable models for data sharing and online services exchange based on decentralised technologies and open source.

What are the next steps for your team?

The next steps for the FitChain team focus on ensuring long-term success and expanding the ecosystem beyond the TrustChain open call program. From Q4 2025 to Q2 2026, the priority will be integrating with major health and fitness platforms such as Garmin and Apple HealthKit, while also building partnerships with fitness clubs and running communities, alongside expanding the REST API for enterprise access. Between Q2 2026 and Q4 2026, FitChain will launch its SDK to enable third-party developers, collaborate with wellness insurers to design incentive programs, and release a public beta of predictive analytics dashboards under a Data-as-a-Service model. By 2027, the goal is to move towards a full go-to-market launch across the EU and selected international markets, establishing FitChain as a leading platform for secure, user-centric health data management.

What is the message you would give to new and potential applicants to TrustChain Open Calls?

Don’t miss the opportunity to partner with TrustChain, as it provides the right environment and resources to transform (through validated demonstrations) your early-stage idea into an effective product for Next Generation Internet protocols.
