NeW Market Generation (NeWG)

capillar IT (CAPIT) proposes NeWG as an innovative solution to address urban logistics challenges in fresh food distribution around wholesale markets. Leveraging CAPIT’s expertise in optimization and simulation for sustainable logistics, the project aims to transform wholesale markets into critical hubs of urban sustainable infrastructures integrating Data Spaces (DS). This enables local merchants with data control and operational efficiency to enhance their competitiveness to excel end-customers experience and foster sustainable consumption.
We integrate an AI-powered marketplace and IoT containers for real-time data sharing with CAPITs logistics optimization engine by adopting the ontology of SIMPLE, national platform for logistics interoperability and eFTI gate, which we extend to cover urban logistics processes. Likewise, we enable fresh food commerce ecosystems with a DS to ensure secure and trustworthy use of digital identities across multiple chains, focusing on an enhanced user experience with intuitive interfaces. Combining both, NeWG fosters inclusive, energy-efficient urban logistics networks around fresh food wholesale markets, while contributing to semantic standards and open ontology schemas to enable effective information transfer and data interoperability across any logistics chains.
Hence NeWG enhances data sharing and real-time optimization to demonstrate the feasibility of multi-chain interoperability, establishing wholesale markets as critical hubs within the urban logistics network that empower users with transparent, data-driven decision-making tools.
The underlying business model includes subscription-based services, consultancy, and data monetization. The natural scalability of NeWG enables market expansion across Europe and globally, ensuring economic and environmental sustainability, targeting a 50% reduction in food waste, a 30% reduction in delivery times and costs, and a 70% decrease in CO2 emissions.
- Motivation for the project: It provides the business and technical framework based on agrifood products and data commerce, logistics and Data Spaces, to integrate the TrustChain software ecosystem into a network of federated markets that can leverage the promise of an EU Digital Single Market, empowered by interoperable, secure chains compliant with the EU Data Act.
- Generic use case description: A set of merchants, wholesalers and retailers, and market administrators aligned to revolutionize their activity and sector by taking control over data to exploit and share it to take better business decisions involving sharing assets and services
- Essential functionalities: Digital infrastructure based on a multi-chain-supporting data space for fresh food logistics and commerce to raise merchants’ competitiveness and urban sustainability by enabling decentralized and customized access to optimization and full chain visibility services, based on a uniform sector ontology, along with control and accountability of data transactions.
- How these functionalities can be integrated within the software ecosystem: The data space architecture based on FIWARE and Gaia-X uses an EBSI-compatible no-code approach for storing logs on context / digital twin data transactions on blockchain networks, a decentralized Trust framework compatible with the EU Digital ID Wallet Architecture and EBSI, and decentralized IM based on W3C and OIDC standards for verifiable credentials issuance and exchange protocols.
- Gap being addressed: Lack of competitiveness of fresh food merchants around wholesale markets derived from lack of digital literacy including the impact of data exploitation in the sector, and its inherent dependence on last mile, with a general lack of visibility and standardization of last mile operations for a full chain optimization.
- Expected benefits achieved with the novel technology building blocks: Data awareness so merchants control its exploitation and decide if sharing or transferring it and how much to take strategic decisions, in particular optimizing logistics performance through mutualization, and logistics investments of their parties that improve their service levels. Also to customize the access to digital services, that can offer extras or pay for data upon the level of sharing.
- Potential demonstration scenario: A group of wholesalers in Mercazaragoza and their business customers, looking to set a pilot to validate a new model of wholesale market based on the mutualisation of common logistics and digital infrastructures.
