The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative proudly announces the NGI Forum 2023 – a European Commission flagship event set to explore the key drivers for the future of the Internet. The NGI Forum 2023 is a hybrid event that will take place on November 15-16 in Brussels, and it promises to be a vibrant gathering of innovators, policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and users alike.
Empowering Users, Transforming the Internet
The NGI Forum 2023 is designed as a dynamic hub for visionary thinkers, policymakers, and technologists to delve into the forefront of Europe’s digital transformation. At its core, the forum places the spotlight on the concept of Digital Commons which is particularly crucial for Europe, as it fosters equitable access to information, fuels innovation, and bolsters digital sovereignty. The NGI initiative has been funding since 2019 concrete projects, mostly open source, contributing to the human-centric transformative movement of the internet, is one of the key European initiatives in the area of digital commons and many more are emerging at national and international level.
In a multifaceted agenda that spans European policy developments, innovation trends, and NGI activities, the NGI Forum 2023 explores a diverse array of topics, moving from the potential of digital commons to underpin the transition to the future internet, the program will expand to digital identity, quantum internet, large language models and web search, decentralised social media and security of the open source supply chain.
Pioneering Innovation through Collaboration Over the past years, the NGI initiative has cultivated a remarkable ecosystem of talented and value-driven innovators. These innovators are working mostly on open source projects, driving forward the mission to re-imagine and re-engineer the Internet.
NGI has catalysed projects such as CryptPad, Searx, Mastodon, and many others that are contributing to tangible solutions for Internet users.
