TrustChain Open Call #2 – User Privacy and Data Governance, focused on trustworthy online platforms that preserve user’s data privacy and provide strong data governance frameworks, was opened for submissions from 20 July 2023 to 20 September 2023 at 17:00 CEST here. With an indicative budget of 1,989,000.00 EUR, the call aimed to support up to 17 projects with a grant amount up to 117,000.00 EUR.
In the following text, you will learn more about the Open Call #2 results and statistics.
TrustChain Open Call #2 closed with 91 submitted applications, representing a total requested budget of 10,485,000.00 €, five times the overall indicative budget available under the call. A summary of the call’s results is presented below:
Type of teams
Under this call, applicants could apply as:
- A group of individuals (team)
- A single organisation (a legal entity)
- A group of organisations (consortium)
- A group of individual(s) and organisation(s)
Out of the 91 submitted applications (figure 1), 55 were submitted by a single organisation, 20 by a group of organisations (consortium), 9 by a group of individuals (team) and 7 by a group of individual(s) and organisation(s).

Entities profile
As shown in table 1, a total of 114 entities were involved in submitted applications. 75 of those were Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), 13 were secondary or higher education establishments, 10 were non-for profit organisations, associations, NGOs, 6 were research organisations, and the remaining (10) were public bodies, foundations, large enterprises, or other type of format of legal entities (figure 2).

Countries
TrustChain Open Call #2 received applications from applicants with residence or legally established in 34 countries (figure 3). Spain was the country more represented under the call with a total of 23 entities/individuals, followed by Italy (13), Portugal (11), and Romania (10). In total, 40% of applicants were linked to those countries.

Profile of selected applications
Table 2 depicts the final results of TrustChain Open Call #2. A total of 15 proposals were selected for funding after a thorough evaluation and selection process conducted by the TrustChain consortium together with independent experts. Results were communicated to applicants on 10 January 2024.
A total of 1,755,000.00 EUR have been requested by applications selected for funding.

Selected proposals were distributed by type of team as follows:
- A single organisation (legal entity): 7
- A group of organisations (Consortium): 6
- A group of individual(s) and organisation(s): 2
A total of 25 entities and 3 individuals were involved in selected applications. Of the 25 entities, 13 are SMEs, 4 are secondary or higher education establishments, 4 are non-for profit organisations, associations, NGOs, 2 are research organisations, and 2 are public bodies (figure 4).

Finally, the distribution of applicants per country is depicted in figure 5. A total of 9 countries are represented in the selected final list. Portugal is the country with more representatives with a total of 9, followed by Italy, Greece and Croatia with 4 representatives each, and Spain with 3. Austria, France, Slovenia and Israel have one representative part of the selected applications.

Selected projects will implement their innovative projects during 9 months, from mid-January to mid-October, where they will receive mentoring and coaching from TrustChain partners, in addition to 117,000.00 EUR (equity free funding) to develop their innovative solution and contribute to the TrustChain ecosystem.
