Enhancing Education through Micro-Credentials and Web3 Innovations
On October 2, 2024, an exciting event titled “Where Education Meets Web3: Micro-Credentials for Micro-Competencies in Education” took place in Slovenia. The gathering brought together educators, technologists, and industry leaders to discuss the future of education. The event focused on enhancing the credibility and verifiability of educational certifications, showcasing the latest innovations in course design, credentialing, and Web3 technologies.
Experts from renowned institutions, including the University of Bologna, CEENQA, and the University of Ljubljana, shared their insights on how micro-credentials are transforming higher education. The Trustchain Partner, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana, played a key role in the event, with a focus on the impact of Web3 technologies in education. Attendees explored crucial topics like upcoming European regulations, as well as innovative projects such as EBSI-VECTOR, TRUSTCHAIN, and ONTOCHAIN, which are driving forward new accreditation and credentialing strategies.
A key highlight was the presentation by Dr. Vlado Stankovski from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana, who spoke during the session “Technologies in TrustChain and OntoChain: Decentralized Trust and Knowledge”. Dr. Stankovski outlined how decentralized trust mechanisms, combined with blockchain technology, are enhancing trust and knowledge-sharing in education, particularly in the context of micro-credentials.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in discussions on how technologies such as the Semantic Web and Blockchain can solve long-standing issues in certificate verification. The sessions also emphasized the importance of aligning educational credentials with international standards, ensuring that learners can have globally recognized, credible certifications.
This event underscored the immense potential of Web3 technologies in creating a transparent, verifiable, and globally accepted credentialing system. As educational institutions continue to adopt these innovations, TrustChain and its partners will remain at the forefront of this transformative journey.
