GreenCertEC proposes a blockchain-based monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure the traceability and authenticity of green energy data. By leveraging distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), smart contracts, and a trusted oracle, the system stores only verified data on the blockchain.
Can you briefly present your team?
GreenCertEC brings together the Energy Community Bessarion (ECB) and the municipality of Sofades (MoS), with the complementary roles of technology developer and representative of end-users.
How did you come up with this project idea and what benefits will it bring to the end users?
The idea was born from the daily operations of the energy community. Due to their interpersonal relationships, the ECB community members have inherent trust in the EC management board, and that fair sharing of the shared PV generation is applied. We observed that applying our model of operation in larger communities and attracting new members requires an extra layer of transparent and trust-based green contracts.
How is TrustChain supporting your growth and what role does it play for the next steps in your development?
Trustchain has enabled us to develop a blockchain-based solution and release it to the public. It has become the main ECB service that the community aims to extend and promote in the following years. MoS will use the solution for its low-income EC members.
Why did you apply to the TrustChain call and has your vision changed since then?
Our vision remains the same. To disrupt the energy market for the common good via a trust and transparency enabler.
What is the most valuable takeout from the TrustChain project and why was the topic of the Open Call important to you/your team?
Our vision remains the same. To disrupt the energy market for the common good via a trust and transparency enabler.
Did you establish collaboration with any of the TrustChain teams or plan for any kind of synergies? If yes, what is the biggest potential in such collaborations?
The collaboration with the coaches and with the Alastria team has facilitated the development of a standards-compliant solution. ECB and Alastria are jointly exploring how the collaboration could continue in the years to come.
What are your expectations regarding the TrustChain software ecosystem and its contribution to the NGI priority areas?
Trustchain ecosystem could serve as the one-stop shop for trust-based open-source solutions. The trustchain toolbox could democratize access to the necessary building blocks to develop novel services. Nevertheless, this would require simplified and intuitive front-end with clear explanation of what each tool does and how they could interact.
What are the next steps for your team?
The team is in the process of expanding its service offering to individuals and will pursue transforming it to a mechanism to support the exchange of Green Energy as an asset.
What is the message you would give to new and potential applicants to TrustChain Open Calls?
The financial support provided is the least important contribution of the Trustchain ecosystem. The collective knowledge available and the openness are catalysts to the transformation of your ideas into real services.
