CreatorCredentials

Creator Credentials introduces decentralised digital identities to the cultural and creative industries. Why? Because we see many use cases for VCs and DIDs in the media industries that can help to significantly enhance the trustworthiness of online media environments.
The abundance of AI generated content and the widespread dissemination of media content online poses significant challenges for users in terms of analysing and verifying the sources, data integrity, authenticity, claims and attribution to the content. This lack of transparency creates an environment that fosters the spread of fake news and disinformation campaigns.
Proper attribution using tools and services based on the concept of self-sovereign identity (SSI) can potentially improve the situation. However, the concepts of SSI are largely unknown to the creative communities. SSI tools and protocols are not easy to use, and the barriers of entry are simply too high to to generate interest and participation from the media sector.

- Motivation for the project: With a clear focus on the cultural and creative industries, the project developed reusable components based on new standards, supporting multichain declarations increasing trust and transparency of digital content online, relevant to support the creator economy and maintain democracy values.
- Generic use case description: The CreatorCredentials app allows media organisations to act as issuers of verifiable creator credentials.
- Essential functionalities: The app facilitates the onboarding, mutual authentication, and verification of credential issuers and creators. it supports the creation and issuance of various credential types and subjects, depending on the use case of the creator or rightsholder.
- Gap being addressed: To date, the concepts and benefits of self-sovereign identity have remained largely unknown to most stakeholders in the media industries. Existing solutions for issuing and verifying verifiable credentials present significant barriers that hinder the sector's interest and involvement in adoption.
- Expected benefits achieved with the novel technology building blocks: Expected benefits are an increased trustworthiness of online media environments (targeting fake news, disinformation, and misappropriation of digital content), enabling legally binding declarations of original content, and fostering the use of new standards in the cultural and creative industries.
- Potential demonstration scenario: Media organisations with qualified authentication can utilise the hosted version of the CreatorCredentials.cc app or install it on premise to issue verifiable credentials to their creators and rightsholders, who can use the creator credentials to make verifiable declarations of original content.
