Interview: Meet the EARTH team!

QX Chain is a scalable, energy-efficient blockchain solution designed specifically for European smart cities and enterprises, utilising a Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) consensus mechanism.

Can you briefly present your team?

A passionate team of engineers, data scientists, and energy experts dedicated to building a smarter, more sustainable future. Harnessing the power of IoT, data, and AI to create smarter solutions for the world.

How did you come up with this project idea and what benefits will it bring to the end users?

The idea behind EARTH emerged from our experience working with buildings where heating systems often operate inefficiently due to lack of intelligent control. DOMX offers a cost-effective and universal retrofit IoT product that is able to deliver up to 30% of energy savings and shift energy use to times of lower market prices, without affecting the occupants’ thermal comfort. The EARTH framework enables: i) consumers, allowing them to monitor their achieved energy savings and comfort based on trustworthy data, ii) Energy Suppliers, providing them with a reliable, automated and verifiable reporting mechanism to facilitate their alignment with emerging obligatory schemes (EEOS) and iii) Authorities entitled to verify the reported metrics empowering them with a secure, trustful and universal service for energy efficiency reporting.

How is TrustChain supporting your growth and what role does it play for the next steps in your development?

TrustChain provided us with both technical infrastructure and a strong innovation ecosystem. Through TrustChain, we managed to integrate secure, decentralized data verification, which is essential for reliable energy savings validation and automated reporting. It also helped us validate our solution within a European network of innovators, accelerating our development and future adoption.

Why did you apply to the TrustChain call and has your vision changed since then?

While our core vision remained the same, participating in TrustChain helped us strengthen the role of blockchain in verifying energy performance data, which is becoming increasingly important for scalable energy efficiency solutions. At the same time, the funding allowed us to further develop and integrate these capabilities into our existing market ready solution.

What is the most valuable takeout from the TrustChain project and why was the topic of the Open Call important to you/your team?

The most valuable outcome has been the ability to combine AI-driven energy optimization with trusted data infrastructures. The Open Call topic was highly relevant because energy transition requires both intelligent control and trustworthy data verification. TrustChain enabled us to bridge these two worlds.

Did you establish collaboration with any of the TrustChain teams or plan for any kind of synergies? If yes, what is the biggest potential in such collaborations?

No, we did not establish collaboration with the other TrustChain teams during the project. However, the TrustChain ecosystem offers strong potential for future synergies, especially among teams working on decentralized identity, secure data sharing, and trust infrastructures. This is an opportunity we find very interesting and one that could be further explored in the future.

What are your expectations regarding the TrustChain software ecosystem and its contribution to the NGI priority areas?

We expect the TrustChain ecosystem to contribute significantly to secure, transparent, and decentralized digital infrastructures, which are core priorities of the Next Generation Internet initiative. For projects like EARTH, these technologies enable trusted energy data sharing, scalable verification of sustainability benefits, and user-centric digital services.

What are the next steps for your team?

Our next steps include:

  • Further deployment and validation of EARTH in more real building environments and end consumers of our existing collaborating Energy Suppliers.
  • Expanding the Energy Supplier Dashboard and reporting capabilities and testing with end consumer portfolios of additional Energy Suppliers
  • Scaling the solution across more buildings and energy stakeholders in the EU.

Ultimately, we aim to bring trusted AI-driven energy optimization to a  broader market. 

What is the message you would give to new and potential applicants to TrustChain Open Calls?

TrustChain offers a unique opportunity to experiment with cutting-edge blockchain technologies while building real-world applications. For teams working on AI, data platforms or digital infrastructures, it provides not only funding, but also a strong innovation community that helps turn ideas into impactful solutions.
